Japanese Noh Theatre Masks
and Ikebana Works
to Go on Display in Sofia


Sofia, September 8 (BTA) - Masks from the Yamamoto Noh Theatre in Osaka, Japan and ikebana works from the Kagetsu School will be on public display at Sofia Hall of the Sofia City Library between September 11 and 17, the hosts said. The event is part of the 30th Days of Japanese Culture in Bulgaria.

Yamamoto, the oldest surviving Noh theatre house in Osaka, will present over 40 masks from its collection, made of hinoki cypress.

Noh theatre figures on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. Developed 650 years ago, it is the oldest major theatre art that is still regularly performed today without any significant changes.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The Kagetsu School is affiliated with the most modern ikebana school in Tokyo and with Rima Mirska, who founded the first ikebana school in Bulgaria in 1995. //
