Illegal Cigarettes Decrease by 0.1 Per Cent in
Q3 Compared to
Q2

December 18 (BTA) - The illegal cigarettes trade in the
third quarter of 2019 decreased by 0.1 per cent from the second
quarter of the year, and by 2 per cent compared to the third
quarter of 2018, findings based on an empty packs survey show.
The Q3 level of contraband trade in cigarettes is the lowest
since 2010, Interior Minister Mladen Marinov said.

In Marinov's words, there is a clear tendency that towns closer
to border areas have higher shares of contraband cigarettes.

The Director of the Customs Agency, Georgi Kostov, said that the
gross revenue from excise duty on tobacco products in
January-November 2019 stands at 2.501 billion leva, which is 177
million leva, or 7.7 per cent, more than the revenue in the
like period in 2018, at the background of unchanged excise duty
rates. These revenues are also 150 million, or 6.4 per cent,
more than the target set forth in the budget. RI/ZH
