Atlantic Club Launches
National Programme
"Three Seas"

Sofia, April 28 (BTA) - The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria (ACB) is launching a national programme, joining the "Three Seas" connectivity initiative, the ACB press centre informed on Tuesday. Director of the programme is ambassador Elena Poptodorova, Vice President of the Atlantic Treaty Association.

The "Three Seas" platform unites Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic in the implementation of large-scale transport, infrastructure, energy, digital and environment projects. It aims at strengthening the security of the EU and NATO in Central and Eastern Europe and diversifying the international economic presence in the region. The initiative qualifies Central and Western Europe as a key factor in the competition between the maritime trade routes to the south and west of Eurasia, that will only intensify with global warming and the melting of the Arctic ice.

The summit of "Three Seas" is scheduled for October 19-20, 2020 in Tallinn, Estonia.

The purpose of the programme launched by ACB is to ensure that Bulgaria is well prepared and makes the most of the new opportunities for connectivity between the three seas, including the Western Balkans and the Aegean Sea. Recently, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced additional funding for the "Three Seas" programme, worth USD 1 billion. Once Bulgaria is back on track after the crisis, it is expected to prioritize large-scale infrastructure projects and provide financial assistance for them from the additional funding.

ACB is inviting everyone interested, be it national, European or transatlantic NGOs, to join efforts under the "Three Seas" programme. RI/MT
