May 3 (BTA) - The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria is 1,618, according to national task force data as at 5 pm on Sunday, the Health Ministry said. There are 316 patients in hospitals, including 39 in intensive care.

The fatalities with confirmed COVID-19 are 73, including two doctors who died on Friday and Saturday.

As of May 2, the national task force discontinued its regular daily briefings. The government based this decision on the conviction that the Bulgarian public is already well-informed of all coronavirus-related details, and on growing criticism that the briefings do more harm than good. The latest COVID-19 information about Bulgaria and the world will be provided in the form of messages from the task force secretary.

Commenting on reactions to the new format of the briefings, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told reporters on Sunday that far from being disbanded, the task force continued working in the most efficient manner. The head of the national task force, Prof Ventsislav Moutafchiiski, also talked at Sunday's briefing.

Two COVID-19 patients at the Military Medical Academy have received antibody-rich plasma from recovered patients and are in better condition.
