Sofia, May 7 (BTA) - The total number of confirmed COVID-19
cases in Bulgaria reached 1,829 on Thursday, the Health Ministry
 said in a press release.

Two new deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to
84.

A total of 384 patients have recovered.

Medical staff with confirmed coronavirus infection now stand at
192.

The head of the national coronavirus task force, Prof.
Ventsislav Moutafchiiski, told a news briefing on Thursday
morning that treatment with blood plasma is limited to the
Medical Military Academy for the time being. Of the two patients
who have received such treatment, one has died and the other
has improved appreciably.

Moutafchiiski said that infections have trebled over the past
couple of days but the system can handle the spike. The increase
is largely due to people flying in from abroad and to clusters
in nursing homes. The task force chief recalled that the
restrictions must be complied with. He said that "the
requirements are being
routinely violated".

"The effect of easing some measures is yet to be analyzed,"
Moutafchiiski said, noting that reopening of cinemas, theatres
and museums is "not in the order of the day". An analysis has
shown that testing detects two out of six people who are
actually infected. RI, NV/ZH, LG
