site.btaPresident Radev: Only Way Out from Current Situation is Resignation of Government, Prosecutor General
Sofia, July 11 (BTA) - Addressing the nation on Saturday after
clashes with police during a scheduled protest rally held next
to a summer property on the Southern Black Sea coast with a
marina and a palatial home known to be used as the summer
residence by Movement for Rights and Freedoms founder Ahmed
Dogan, President Radev said that the only way out of the current
situation is resignation of the government and of the
Prosecutor General. Clashes with police broke out during a rally
in support of the President and another demonstration in
support of the government in Sofia on Friday evening and night.
"Violence and manipulations cannot win back the trust in the two
institutions. Any delay pushes Bulgaria into a dead-end. Any
demonstration of obstinacy increases the risk of chaos," Radev
said. He said that a national anti-mafia consensus is emerging
which unites millions of honest Bulgarians and "is stronger than
money, media and the administrative resource of the powers that
be".
Radev urged the law-enforcement authorities to stick to the law,
saying that he is certain that police and gendarmerie officers
will not allow to be used against their brothers and sisters.
The President urged the protesters to fend off violence and not
yield to provocations.
Radev said that the attempts of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov to
shift the responsibility for the public tension cannot mislead
anyone who knows the situation in Bulgaria.
"Now when the Bulgarians are on the streets, Europe cannot watch
Bulgaria with eyes wide shut. The EU needs a democratic
Bulgaria, Bulgaria of rule of law, principles and rules," Radev
said. NV/ZH
