August 21 (BTA) - In the second quarter of 2020, in the conditions of a state of emergency and the ensuing epidemic situation, 447,200 Bulgarians made tourist trips, the National Statistical Institute said on Friday. Some 92.7 per cent travelled within the country, 6.8 per cent - abroad and 0.5 per cent - both in the country and abroad. Compared with the same quarter of 2019 the total number of travellers aged 15 and over decreased by 63.3 per cent.

The number of Bulgarians who travelled in the country decreased by 55.1 per cent , and of those who travelled abroad - by 86.9 per cent. The number of persons who travelled both in the country and abroad dropped by 96.3 per cent.

Between April and June, 202,500 Bulgarians aged 25-44 accounted for 45.3 per cent of all travellers. Trips within the country predominated in all age groups.

The majority of tourist trips of persons aged 15 and over abroad, were for holiday and recreation - 81.4 per cent , while those made in the country for the same purpose were 44. 5 per cent. Trips for family visits accounted for 44 per cent.

In the second quarter, 544,700 or 95.7 per cent of the total number of tourist trips were individual. The relative share of unprebooked trips in the country was 96.7 per cent, while those abroad - 79.2 per cent.

In terms of expenditures, food expenditures had the highest relative share in domestic trips and in foreign trips - 40. 4 per cent and 30.7 per cent respectively.

In the second quarter of 2020 a person aged 15 and over spent on average 176.46 leva on a private trip in the country and 497.95 leva for a private trip abroad. By comparison, the average expenditure per person for professional trip was 132.34 leva in the country and 949.46 leva abroad. RI/PP
