site.btaShare of Cyber Fraud in Bulgaria Up Two-fold in 2020

October 8 (BTA) - According to data of the National Centre for Incident Response in Information Security with the State eGovernment Agency, in 2020 the share of cyber fraud in Bulgaria was 48 per cent, while back in 2016 it stood at 24 per cent of all cyber incidents in this country. The share of malicious code remained high during the period in question, reaching 35 per cent in 2020 compared to 30 per cent in 2016, said State eGovernment Agency Deputy Chairman Krassimir Simonski at Thursday's opening of the InfoSec SEE 2020 international cyber security conference.

He also said, as quoted by the State eGovernment Agency's press centre, that to counteract more effectively the ever more aggressive cyber attacks, united efforts are needed not only at the national but also at the international level.

Simonski noted that in the 2021-2027 programming period, the State eGovernment Agency will update the Cyber Security Strategy and the road map with it. Under the EU's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, Bulgaria should receive 6.2 billion euro of which at least 20 per cent are for projects in the area of digital transition: building of high-tech networks, digitalization of the public administration, provision of Gigabit connectivity for centres of social life (e.g. hospitals, train and bus stations, schools), and digitalization of key sectors such as health care, transport, and education. The State will elaborate such projects in partnership with businesses, and the IT sector is expected to take an active part with ideas and project proposals, Simonski said.

Bulgaria's digital sector should also receive 260 million euro under the new Operational Programme Innovations and Digital Transformation, Simonski added.
