site.btaPrime Minister Borissov: We Are Raising the Full Potential of the Healthcare System against COVID-19

November 9 (BTA) - At an extraordinary government online meeting on Monday, funding of up to 65,000,000 leva was allocated, to medical establishments for the treatment of patients with coronavirus, as well as for diagnostics of the population with symptoms on the territory of Bulgaria, the press service of the cabinet said. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said: "We are raising the full potential of the health system against the coronavirus. We have provided another 81 million leva for the implementation of additional measures in the fight against COVID-19, there is already a unified medical protocol, we have included GPs, but the most important thing is that people continue to keep themselves safe".

The remaining funds of up to 81 million leva under the additional measures announced on Sunday by the Health Minister Kostadin Angelov will be provided by the reserve of the National Health Insurance Fund.

Up to 6 million leva have been allocated for the establishment of COVID zones in Diagnostic and Consulting Centres (DCCs) and 10 million leva were provided for financing general practitioners for their activity in November and December 2020.

"There is money, it has been provided! As of today, I want a full review of the medical care that will be provided to Bulgarian patients. Work at full capacity," Prime Minister Borissov told the ministers.

The Prime Minister asked the Minister of Health to provide opportunities for blood plasma donations not only in Sofia, but throughout Bulgaria, from patients who have recovered from COVID-19, because this is a way to help new patients.

Estimates show that through the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund, at the expense of funds from the operational reserve, it will be ensured that, as of November 1, each general practitioner will receive 1,000 leva for follow-up of citizens with COVID-19. The aim is to motivate doctors to monitor, prescribe therapy and follow up on the health of citizens.

General practitioners will reflect the condition of the patients in the COVID system and will advise what actions to take for treatment. They will be able to order rapid antigen tests to diagnose patients in the presence of certain symptoms, which will be discussed during negotiations for an annex to the National Framework Agreement.

Designated COVID-zones are expected in about 10 DCCs on the territory of Sofia and about 40 on the territory of Bulgaria. RI/DT
