As Expected, Bulgarian Government
Extends Epidemic Emergency
by a Month until May's End

Sofia, April 28 (BTA) - As expected, the government extended the epidemic emergency in Bulgaria by a month until May 31. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov announced the decision on Facebook Wednesday. He explained that the decision was made in order to made arrangements and issue orders that are important for tourism.

Outgoing Health Minister Kostadin Angelov said that there is a lasting decline in the infection rates and deaths, and hospitalizations are decreasing, including ICU beds.

"It has become clear that Bulgaria emerges successfully from the third wave of the pandemic - unlike many other European countries which are failing to achieve this result despite the stricter measures they are taking, including bans on people leaving their homes," he said.

The outgoing Minister also said that COVID vaccination "goes at a very good pace". Between 15,000 and 20,000 people per day get a jab and vaccination without prior appointment starts Friday.

In his words, the situation "is extrenely well controlled at national level".

The extension of the epidemic emergency aims to "stabilize the achieved results", he added. RY/LN/ //
