Sofia, July 26 (BTA) - For the first time, Bulgarian children
and students are talking live with the astronauts aboard the
International Space Station (ISS). The video link was provided
by the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, in partnership with the US
Embassy in Sofia, and along with over 30 organizations involved
in educational initiatives in the field of science and
technology. BTA broadcasted the conversation, titled: ''Hello
Space! Bulgaria/EU calling'', with a live video conference with
the International Space Station (ISS) from 6 pm.
Thirty-two Bulgarian school and university students put
questions to NASA astronauts. A commission selected 15 out of
203 questions, which were sent to NASA so that the ISS
astronauts can answer them.
"Could my parrot fly in zero gravity aboard the ISS?", "They say
the Universe is infinite and expanding. How can something
infinite expand?", "Is it true that diamonds rain on Jupiter?",
"Can a hen lay an egg in space?" are some of the selected
questions.
Before the video conference, Atlantic Club in Bulgaria President
Solomon Passy, Education and Science Minister Prof. Nikolay
Denkov, and US Ambassador Herro Mustafa addressed the meeting.
There were also video messages from Bulgaria's first cosmonaut
Georgi Ivanov and from NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea
Geoana.
