September 1 (BTA) - Thousands of classical music
connoisseurs attended Tuesday evening the concert of operatic
stars Sonya Yoncheva and Placido Domingo who sang with Sofia
Philharmonic under the baton of Nayden Todorov. The open-air
performance was held in the St. Alexander Nevsky Square in
downtown Sofia.

The audience was treated to a two-hour programme ranging from
classics like Verdi, Mascani, Giordano and Puccini to
contemporary composers such as Burnstein and Sorozabal.

The gala-concert was livestreamed across the world at a special
website.

This is the second time the world-famous tenor Placido Domingo
has come to Bulgaria. He has partnered with other outstanding
Bulgarian opera singers like Ghena Dimitrova, Raina Kabaivanska
and Nikolai Ghiaurov. This time it was with Sonya Yoncheva, who
won the Operalia competition years ago.

Operalia was founded in 1993 by Placido Domingo to discover and
help launch the careers of the most promising young opera
