Mexican National Detained
for Murder
of MMA Fighter in Haskovo
Haskovo, Southeastern Bulgaria, February 15 (BTA) - The Haskovo District Prosecution Office has detained a Mexican national, 42, for the murder of 33-year-old MMA fighter Turgay Sali, the prosecution office said in a press release here on Tuesday.
The crime was committed at shortly after 1 am local time on Sunday, February 13. The victim was shot in the buttocks. Sali was taken to hospital in Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria where he underwent surgery but died the following night, the prosecution office reported.
The Mexican national was arrested in a hotel in Sofia on Monday morning. He had entered Bulgaria from North Macedonia on February 10, travelling by bus. A firearm casing identical to other two which were found at the crime scene in Haskovo has been discovered in a car rented by the suspect.
The Mexican was detained for 72 hours and the prosecution will seek his permanent detention. RY/KK
