Sofia, August 8 (BTA) - At a plenum of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) on Friday the new leader, Mihail Mikov, said that he will set up a working group to monitor the performance of the caretaker cabinet, appointed by President Rosen Plevneliev. There is a clear attempt on the part of the President for interference in the political life, said Mikov.

According to him, for several months now, there has been consolidation of the Right and all constitutional possibilities have been used, mostly [through] the President for an attack against BSP and its participation in the governance under the 42nd National Assembly. "Sometimes, these attempts exceed the strict limits of the constitutional powers and, obviously, the purpose in this situation is not only to neglect the Socialists' participation in the government but also to deliver heavy blows within the upcoming election campaign and even before its formal start," said Mikov.

In this context, the President's attempt to interfere in the political life is clearly outlined. "If you look at the priorities of the caretaker cabinet, it is evident that they exceed by far the short term of tenure, provided for it under the Constitution, and the powers, which should mostly be confined to the normal holding of parliamentary elections and constituting the next National Assembly," Mikov also said.

It has been proposed to change the name of Coalition for Bulgaria to BSP - Left Bulgaria coalition BSP Spokesman Angel Naydenov said before the beginning of the plenum.
