site.btaSocialist Party: GERB Is Entering the Executive before Elections at High Speed

Sofia, August 14 (BTA) - GERB is entering the executive at high speed before the snap parliamentary elections, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Deputy Chairman Yanaki Stoilov told a news conference Thursday. In his words, the staff changes made by the caretaker government of Georgi Bliznashki are an attempt to appoint people politically directly involved with GERB at both central and regional level. This raises the issue about the character of the caretaker government, Stoilov said.

Stoilov compared the present caretaker government with Marin Raykov's in 2013 when almost no changes were made in the administration inherited after the governance of GERB. The BSP calls for professionally well-founded appointments, and that only where necessary.

BSP Deputy Chairman Dragomir Stoynev added that the caretaker government is preparing the ground for a future GERB government. Revenge steps are in the making, covered under a revision of the governance of Plamen Oresharski, he said.

Former National Assembly deputy chair Maya Manolova called the actions of the caretaker government "a political broom". In her opinion, GERB leader Boyko Borissov stands behind the appointments of deputy ministers, regional governors and agency heads. Manolova declared the caretaker cabinet was Borissov's "plan B" in case he fails to form a government after the elections.

The apocalyptic picture about the country's financial condition painted by GERB is over-exaggerated if one looks at the objective facts, Manolova added. Stoynev supported her statement by saying that the National Revenue Agency data show 400 million leva more revenue from taxes and insurance contributions.

Commenting on the nomination for a Bulgarian European Commissioner, Stoilov said that agreement had been reached at one of the talks hosted by the President to hold consultations between the main parties and form the Bulgarian position on the matter, but these have not taken place so far.
