site.btaBulk Prices of Fruit, Vegetables Continue to Fall

Sofia, August 19 (BTA) - The wholesale food price index dropped last week to 1.249 points, the lowest level this year, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported. In August 2013 the index fell to 1.304 points.

The average wholesale price of tomatoes decreased by 10 per cent to 1.03 leva per kilogramme. Cucumbers decreased by 21 per cent to 0.90 lv/kg. Cabbage was selling at 0.36 lv/kg. The average wholesale price of potatoes lost 5.1 per cent reaching 0.54 lv/kg. Carrots decreased 8.1 per cent and traded at 0.57 lv/kg.

Apples lost 19.3 per cent to 1.09 lv/kg. Peaches traded at 0.90 lv/kg. Watermelons decreased by 12.1 per cent and traded at 0.29 leva/kg. Melons fell by 5.2 per cent to 0.73 leva/kg. Lemons rose by 2.4 per cent to 4.20 lv/kg.

White brined cheese from cow's milk traded at 5.69 lv/kg. Yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type was selling at 11.09 lv/kg on average.

Sunflower cooking oil went down by 1.5 per cent to 1.96 lv/litre. Minced meat traded at 4.70 lv/kg. The price of sugar was 1.24 lv/kg. Type 500 flour was selling at 0.85 lv/kg. Common beans was traded at 4.27 lv/kg. Eggs went down by 5.6 per cent and traded at 0.17 leva a piece.
