850 Individuals Evade
Lv 20 Mln in Personal
Income Tax

Sofia, September 2 (BTA) - Eight hundred and fifty individuals
audited by the authorities in the first half of 2014 were found
to have evaded a total of 20 million leva in personal income
tax, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) said on Tuesday. If the
offenders fail to pay their dues within two weeks, the money
will be collected forcibly.

The amount is part of a total of 33 million leva in overdue
personal income tax obligations detected between January and
June.

Over 80 per cent of all audits of natural persons are conducted
in order to see if their assets match their liabilities. The
auditors use information not only about housing and vehicles
registered with various government agencies, but also about
other expensive purchases, such as boats, household appliances
and jewellery.

Every VAT-registered company in Bulgaria is required to submit
monthly reports about its buyers to NRA, providing the buyers'
names and personal identification numbers. In this way, the
computer system often detects cases in which a household's
monthly payments on a lease or mortgage, for example, exceed the
household's official income severalfold, NRA said. VI/VE
