BSP Nominates Yanaki Stoilov as Parliament's Deputy Chair
Sofia, October 26 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party's (BSP)
National Council has affirmed the Executive Bureau's proposal to
nominate Yanaki Stoilov as National Assembly Deputy Chair, said
BSP Spokesperson Atanas Merdjanov after the party's Sunday
plenum.
Merdjanov said BSP will not nominate a Parliament chair,
explaining that this will be a right and advantage of the
largest parliamentary group.
BSP is alarmed and concerned about the possibility of early
parliamentary elections. Merdjanov said his party really hopes
and calls on GERB, headed by Boyko Borissov, to realize their
serious and heavy political responsibility to create a working
government in Bulgaria. He recalled that GERB was the political
force which consistently called for early parliamentary
elections over the course of 16 months. No excuses would be able
to justify not forming a government, Merdjanov went on to say.
He underscored the change in dialogue and Borissov's style of
behaviour after October 5, but noted that precious political
time has been wasted over the past three weeks. According to
Merdjanov, the orientation to form a Centre-right government,
stated on the election night, must be finalized regardless of
the specific selfish party interests, expressed by the political
forces making up other coalitions. He said that the question
about pressure from Brussels to form a broad coalition is being
overexposed.
BSP-Left Bulgaria's Parliamentary Group will meet on Monday at
11:00 am. Socialist leaders are nominating Mihail Mikov as the
Parliamentary Group's chair, Angel Naydenov, Kornelia Ninova and
Atanas Merdjanov as deputy chairs and Zahari Georgiev, Zhelyo
Boychev and Kristian Vigenin as secretaries.
An eight per cent reduction of the National Council's staff was
agreed on during the plenum. The proposal was adopted with one
vote against and one abstention, which shows the understanding
of the financial situation BSP is in with this small
parliamentary group, Merdjanov said. He noted that other actions
for restructuring BSP's apparatus will be taken by this year's
end.
