Bulgaria, Kazakhstan Sign Accords on Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and Extradition

Sofia, November 14 (BTA) - Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov and
the visiting Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Ashat Daulbaev,
signed here Friday an agreement on legal assistance in criminal
matters and an extradition agreement, said the Justice Ministry.

The agreement on legal assistance in criminal matters provides
for various forms of cooperation in criminal proceedings,
including in the serving of summons and documents, collection of
physical evidence, searches, questioning, expert analyses and
others.

By the extradition agreement, the two sides agree to extradite
persons from their territory to be tries for crimes which call
for extradition - or to serve a sentence for such crimes.

The two accords meet the highest international standards for
legal cooperation in criminal matters, the two officials said.

Hristo Ivanov expressed hope that the competent bodies of the
two countries will complete the necessary preparations of an
agreement on transfer of sentenced persons. It will be the last
of three key accords regulating international legal cooperation
on criminal cases, the Ministry said.

Ashat Daulbaev and Bulgarian Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov
agreed that the two prosecution services have fine relations
based on a cooperation agreeement of 2010, said Tsatsarov's
office. The two sides agreed that bilateral dialogue needs to
intensify in a view of present-day challenges such as cyber
crime, transborder crime and terrorism.
