Deputy PM Kuneva: Bulgaria and Romania
Should Have Special
Relations
Sofia, November 17 (BTA) - Meeting with Romanian Ambassador here
Anton Pacuretu on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva
said that Bulgaria and Romania should have special relations and
follow common goals within the European Union, said the
government press office.
Kuneva said that achieving good results under the Cooperation
and Verification Mechanism (whereby the European Commission
monitors the progress of Bulgaria and Romania in reforming their
judicial systems and fighting organized crime and corruption)
is an immediate priority for the Bulgarian government. She added
that she will try to use the Romanian progress as an incentive
for stepping up the judicial reforms and the counter-corruption
combat here.
Kuneva also said that a part of the project to be funded under
the European investment programme which European Commission
President Jean-Claude Juncker is expected to announce before the
year's end, should be cross-border to enhance the process of
their approval by the European Commission and bring added value
for people in the two countries in terms of growth and jobs.
According to the Bulgarian government official, entry in
Schengen is a feasible task both for Bulgaria and for Romania.
She expressed readiness to discuss the matter with
representatives of the Bulgarian government and said that one of
her first visits abroad will be to Bucharest.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed trade
relations, opportunities for infrastructure projects, tourism
and cooperation in guarding the external Eu border. PK/LN/
