46th Sofia Music Weeks Fest
Focuses on Young Generation,
20th Century Classical Music


Sofia, May 21 (BTA) - The 46th edition of the Sofia Music Weeks
Festival is focused on the young generation and 20th century
classical music, programmer Momchil Georgiev told a news
conference Thursday. The event is organized by the Sofia Music
Weeks International Festival Foundation in partnership with the
Ministry of Culture, Sofia City Hall, the National Palace of
Culture, and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Pioneer Youth Philharmonic will open the fest under the
baton of Lyubomir Denev-Junior with a matinee at Bulgaria Hall
on May 24. The programme includes a premiere of a Piano Concerto
by Jean Panajotoff who will be the soloist, works by Pancho
Vladiguerov, Saint-Saеns, Mussorgsky, Borodin and Georgi
Strezov.

"A meeting between maturity and the young generation that writes
the story of the 21st century" is the motto of this year's
edition. The concerts are united in six cycles: Pianorama,
Orchestra Forum, Chamber Pearls, Premieres, 20th Century
Classics and Scene of the Young Musician.

Special concerts will mark the following anniversaries: 75 years
since the birth of Alexander Yossifov, 100 years since the
death of Scriabin, 120 years since the birth of Paul Hindemith,
120 years since the birth of Alban Berg, 130 years since the
birth of Ravel, and 150 years since the birth of Jean Sibelius.

The participants include noted soloists such as Bojidar Noev
(piano), Ludmil Angelov (piano), Evgeni Bozhanov (piano),
Plamena Mangova (piano), violinists Elmira Darvarova, Lia
Petrova, Mario Hossen, opera prima Silvana Pravcheva, Valentin
Radutiu (cello), and Suzana Klintcharova (harp), among
