Volunteers Wanted for Mountain Clean-up

Sofia, August 20 (BTA) - The For the Nature association of
environmental organizations is recruiting volunteers for the
17th edition of a clean-up in the Rila National Park. The
clean-up will be held August 31 through September 6.

This time the efforts will be focused on hard-to-reach areas of
the park.

Fifty volunteers from across the country have already signed up
and the recruitment campaign is on until August 23. The high
number of volunteers will allow having three groups working at
three different locations, including parts of the park which
have been left out of the clean-up efforts so far.

For the Nature say that one of the bad problems is the use of
disposable plastic cutlery in the mountain chalets. After use
these either contribute to the litter in the mountain or get
burnt in the stoves and pollute the clean mountain air. The
decision is to bring your own cutlery and take it back in your
backpack, the organization says.

The Rila clean-up is held annual entirely thanks to donations
and volunteers.

Each volunteer pay a participation fee of 10 leva which goes in
a fund to finance the next clean-up. He gets for his
contribution a T-shirt or a bandana, and meals for the duration
of the campaign.
