President Plevneliev's Meetings in Hamburg Focus on Migration Pressure

Hamburg, November 12 (BTA) - The problems, related to the
unprecedented migration pressure were in the focus of the talks,
which Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev had in the German
city of Hamburg. At talks with representatives of the Government
and the Parliament of this German state Plevneliev recalled
that Bulgaria was the first to face the migration wave in 2013,
the President's Press Secretariat said. Bulgaria is one of the
few countries, which adheres to the rules and registers all
refugees entering its territory.

Bulgaria will keep on working to find a common European solution
of the problem, the President said adding that the only
possibility for Europe to cope with the crisis goes through
adhering to common universally-applicable rules, shared
responsibility and pro-European policy.

According to the head of State, the interests of the separate
countries should not prevail but the problems should be shared
and resolved as each party should give its contribution. "The
worst approach for the EU today would be the nationalist and the
best one - to act as an united family," said Plevneliev.

The hosts pointed out that Hamburg is faced with a big challenge
in relation with the migration wave and now it should work hard
for the refugees' integration through education and employment.
In their opinion, the European countries should be prepared for
lasting adverse development of the refugee crisis and the fears
should give place to urgent decisions and common actions.

Earlier on Thursday Plevneliev conferred with representatives of
the Bulgarian school in Hamburg and of the Bulgarian Orthodox
church community. The head of State undertook to raise the issue
of the needs of the Bulgarian school before the local powers in
Hamburg. The representatives of the school urged to have the
Bulgarian language recognized as a foreign language in the
curriculum of German schools. They said that this has already
been achieved by several other EU member states.

The representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox church community
urged to find a location that houses together the Bulgarian
church and school. At the moment the school has rooms in three
separate buildings.

In Hamburg Plevneliev signed the book of condolences for the
late German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt. Plevneliev said Schmidt
will be remembered in history as a visionary and champion of
united Europe.

Later on Thursday Plevneliev will give a keynote speech at the
Europe Evening organized by the AFA Business Association.

On November 13 Plevneliev will attend the First Berlin Global
Forum. The forum, entitled, "Europe and the Emerging Economies:
Sharing Responsibility," aims to establish a dialogue between
Europe and the emerging economies that focuses on common
interests and shared responsibility.

In Berlin Plevneliev is to confer with Chairman of the Eastern
Europe Business Association of Germany Marcus Felsner.
