MRF Set Not to Allow Crisis in Party Structure, Social and Political Spectrum

Sofia, December 31 (BTA) - "Our categorical choice is in favour of peace, stability and security and not destabilization and confrontation," reads a position of the leadership of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), quoted by the party's press centre.

"In the recent days, the public attention was focused on the processes within MRF, being one of the leading political parties in Bulgaria. These processes were prompted namely by our clear awareness of the responsibility before our members and electorate and before the whole society. Each of our actions and decisions after the symbolic speech of MRF Honorary Chairman Ahmed Dogan, being a key message to the MRF political leadership for guaranteeing and preserving the political stability in the region and the security of the Republic of Bulgaria, are an effort to bring things back to their normal course," the message says.

Earlier this month Dogan made a speech before the party elite where he slammed Mestan for a pro-Turkish statement he had made amid mounting tensions between Turkey and Russia. The declaration was followed by Mestan's ouster from the office of party leader - and party member.

The MRF leaders go on to say that the "Russia or Turkey" choice, suggested by certain circles, is a "manipulative change of the key political meaning of the message. "The MRF electorate should not be forced to make such a choice, subordinated to a wrong and non-existent political theory," the message says.

MRF will continue the strategic partnerships with the Republic of Turkey and the other counties from the region in the spirit of preserving and developing the Euro-Atlantic and European values. "We keep on supporting the efforts of the Republic of Turkey for full membership of the European Union."

The MRF leaders say further that they will not allow a crisis situation in the MRF structures or the public and political spectrum. The MRF decisions are consistent with the party's Statute and programming documents, which stipulate that the Movement's structures have the will and the right to determine the policy in accordance with the MRF philosophy and fundamental values.
