Bulgaria Can Open European Market to Argentina - President

Buenos Aires, February 4 (BTA Special Correspondent Assen Boyadjiev) - Bulgaria has a clear goal and strategy, which it would declare with ease, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said at a Bulgarian-Argentinian Business Forum in Buenos Aeres.

President Rosen Plevneliev Wednesday arrived on an official visit to Argentina following his three-day visit to Brazil.

Bulgaria is a good friend of everyone around the world and has a good name and reputation. Bulgaria can open the wealthiest market and the biggest economy in the world, the European one, to Argentina, President Plevneliev said further. He noted that Bulgaria has the lowest taxes and fees and energy costs and is one of the European countries with the most strategic locations.

Argentina has a phenomenal potential, remarkable people and powerful history. Plevneliev said further that this has been the first visit by EU representatives and that it takes place in the right moment.

Manuel Riveira, Deputy Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce of Argentina, said that there has been a tendency of growth of two-way trade in the recent years but that there is still untapped potential in this area. "We witness a relatively limited diversification of products, exported to Bulgaria. Copper accounts for almost 90 per cent of the overall exports and there are possibilities to increase the volume of exports and extend the range of products," he observed.

On his part, Tsvetan Simeonov, President of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that they will be at the disposal of all Argentinean companies and will treat them on an equal footing with the Bulgarian ones.

The two chambers signed an agreement within the forum.

Prior to the forum, Plevneliev laid a wreath to the Monument of General Jose Francisco de San Martin.

Earlier in the day Plevneliev met with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Argentina who came from Chaco Province, Comodoro Rivadavia, Cordoba Province, Buenos Aires, La Plata, and Berisso.

Argentina has the biggest Bulgarian community in South America: approximately 45,000 Argentine nationals of Bulgarian origin. There are six Bulgarian cultural and educational associations in Argentina.

After taking questions, President Plevneliev and his team committed to help in the solving of problems of the Bulgarian organizations in Argentina, part of which are related to the shortage of school aids.

As part of his visit to Argentina, the Bulgarian head of State is scheduled to confer with his counterpart Mauricio Macri and take part in the opening of an Argentine-Bulgarian business forum.

To be signed is a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the sphere of defence between the two countries' defence ministries.

This year marks the 85th anniversary of the establishment of Bulgarian-Argentine diplomatic relations.
