President Believes Protection of Constitutional Rights Should Not Result in Fall of Cabinet

Sofia, May 11 (BTA) - "I do not think that the protection of the constitutional rights of the Bulgarian citizens should lead to a fall of the Government," President Rosen Plevneliev said on Wednesday.

He voiced hope that a responsible solution will be found that will be in the interest of the Bulgarians' voting rights and will guarantee the stability of the state.

Plevneliev said he is ready to protect the country's stability and exercise his rights under the Constitution. The head of State recalled that he has twice appointed a caretaker cabinet and could do this for a third time adding, however, that he would not like that things go that far.

Commenting on the decision of the ABV party to withdraw from the ruling coalition, Plevneliev said that he does not believe that things happen by chance in politics and that ABV's decision was spontaneous. In his opinion, the decision of the ABV parliamentary group was based on a carefully considered strategy. The political parties have the right to decide where and how to position themselves.

The President noted that the upcoming presidential elections will obviously be tough because the political parties will do their best to retailor the public spectrum. It is also obvious, however, that the efforts for stability will be rewarded by the people, he added.

"The nation is concerned with the record-high number of crises around us. It is concerned with the migration waves, terrorism and everything that we see. When the nation is concerned, we should work for stability. We should turn our back to unprincipled political contradictions and guarantee a long-term perspective," the President also said.
