German-Bulgarian Fruit Processing Company Unveils New Production Facility

Letnitsa, Northern Bulgaria, June 20 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev unveiled a new production facility of a German-Bulgarian fruit processing company in Letnitsa on Monday. Plevneliev said: "We should never forget that Bulgaria is a traditional food producer in the world. We should never give up our dream and ambition to be the best in food production."

The President noted that Bulgarian-made foods are in demand not only in Germany and Austria but also in China, Vietnam and all of Central and East Asia. These products are a symbol of high quality and high demand, he said. "I am certain that we and our German partners will open up these markets over the long term as well," he said.

The new facility is expected to increase the company's frozen fruit output to between 6,000 and 7,000 tonnes annually and create 400 jobs.

Plevneliev called the German investors "our friends" and said that they "are opening a new horizon; together with them we are much stronger." He said the Bulgarian partner in the joint venture started up as a small factory in the 1990s and grew into a modern plant aspiring to become one of Bulgaria's five largest industrial producers of frozen fruit.

The opening ceremony was also attended by German Ambassador to Bulgaria Detlef Lingemann and Bulgaria's Honorary Consul General in Germany Gerd-Winand Imeyer.
