RB's Zelenogorski: "We Will not Push Bulgaria into Early Elections Spiral"

Sofia, October 15 (BTA) - "We will not push Bulgaria into the early elections spiral and will not readily hand the power over to the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms," said the Reformist Bloc's (RB) Spokesperson Nayden Zelenogorski following a meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Friday.

Borissov gave an ultimatum on Friday to the Reformist Bloc that if they want to stay in the government, they will have to act as part of the ruling majority. His remarks came after the Bloc tabled changes to the Election Code on Thursday, which will see the option of "none of the above" marked on the ballot paper counted in the total number of votes for presidential candidates. Borissov accused the Bloc of having forgotten about their demands at a meeting in Parliament on the Election Code, which Borissov himself attended - to exclude none of the above ballots from the four per cent barrier to Parliament.

Zelenogorski said that the RB will participate in the extraordinary sitting in Parliament on Tuesday, adding that the agenda includes points important for the Bloc. According to Health Minister Peter Moskov (RB), the participants in the meeting between GERB, the Bloc and the Patriotic Front have declared their support for the government programme and the majority's stability.

MEP and vice presidential candidate Iliana Iotova said on Saturday that she believes Prime Minister Borissov will try to cause early parliamentary elections at any cost. She expects this attempt to be made very soon, adding that parliamentary and presidential elections could have been held together, if there was more than a month until the presidential elections.

According to her, the early elections topic has been firmly on the agenda since Friday and there is no way the current government coalition can be preserved. The sociological polls about the presidential election results have caused Borissov to react in panic.
