PM: Election Defeat Would Mean
GERB Taking No Part
in Running Country

Sofia, November 13 (Genka Ivanova of BTA) - GERB will take no
part in running the country if it loses Sunday's presidential
elections, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said after casting his
vote.

Borissov was asked if he would resort to the legal option of
forming a new government under the current Parliament. He
reiterated that he would step down with immediate effect if GERB
 is defeated at the polls.

Asked why he tied the outcome of the presidential vote to his
staying in power, Borissov said he is a person with moral
integrity and dignity and noted that these are elections for a
higher institution - head of state. If the people vote so, then
that would mean shaking up the entire political landscape, he
said, adding that people should reckon with themselves and come
out today and say if it is stability that they want.

The Prime Minister said that GERB is hearing loud and clear the
signals, including the implications from the referendum. In his
view, not one leva should be provided as a state subsidy to the
political parties because "through this one leva, the no-gooders
and oligarchs that are entering politics are clearly indicating
they will be laundering their money and would be saying - this
[money] is from the party subsidies." He then went on to call
for a level playing field with no subsidies.

Borissov also pointed out that Bulgaria should be looking ahead
to the EU Presidency it is due to take over. There should be
complete calm in 2017 to make the relevant preparations and from
January 1, 2018 until the end of August that year, the
political parties should have just one thing on their mind - the
country's showing in Europe's eyes, he said. RUM
