40 Kg of Heroin Seized in SE Bulgaria

Yambol, Southern Bulgaria, December 23 (BTA) - Some 40 kg of heroin have been seized during a police operation in Yambol and the village of Radovets, Bourgas Appellate Prosecutor Lyubomir Petrov told a news conference on Friday. Four men have been arrested charged with large scale drug pushing.

Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov said that anti-organized crime unit officers had detected the group which was trying to sell large quantities of heroin. The group had been under surveillance for two months.

On December 21, one of the suspects was detained while trying to sell 5 kg of heroin for 100,000 leva. Later the rest of heroin was discovered in a home in the village of Radovets.

The heroin is estimated at 2 million leva.

Ivailo Spiridonov, head of the anti-organized crime unit, said that the drug was destined for the market in Bulgaria.
