Caretaker Government Has Drafted Mechanism to Calculate Minimum Salary - Minister

Sofia, April 25 (BTA) - A mechanism for calculating the minimum salary has been drafted and the upper limit is yet to be specified. It will be determined by the government in case employers and trade unions do not reach a consensus, caretaker Minister of Labour and Social Policy Gulub Donev told a news conference Tuesday. He reported the work of his ministry during the caretaker government's tenure.

Donev said he hopes that the social partners will come to an agreement about the controversial issue in the remaining days of the caretaker government. If this does not happen, what has been done so far will be placed at the disposal of the regular cabinet, he added.

The sides have agreed on some 15 statistical indicators to be used in the negotiations between employers and trade unions, and the statistical data should be submitted for the period by March 31.

The indicators include cost of living, labour productivity and the economic condition of the country.

Donev reported that during the first quarter over 53,000 have found jobs on the labour market, including 95 per cent on the primary labour market. A total of 50,184 free jobs were announced at the labour exchanges in the first quarter of 2017, nearly 7.0 per cent more year-on-year. The private sector has declared 40,000 free jobs or about 80 per cent of all.

The National Action Plan on Employment was also launched in the first quarter of 2017, the programmes under it providing subsidized employment for 23,000 unemployed and training and qualification courses for over 11,000 unemployed.
