site.btaPrime Minister Tells EC Vice President that Cybercrime Requires More Attention

Sofia, July 21 (BTA) - The European Commission could pay more attention to the fight against cyber threats and cybercrime, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told European Commission Vice President Jyrki Katainen, who is in charge of Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness in the Commission. Borissov added that this would be good for the security of all EU member states, considering the rapid development of technology.

He and Katainen met in Sofia on Friday, the second and last day of the Commissioner's visit to Bulgaria.

The two discussed the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2018. Borissov noted that one of the three principal messages of the Bulgarian EU Presidency will be about the competitiveness of the European economy. Particular emphasis will be laid on supporting entrepreneurship, growth and jobs, the Economic and Monetary Union, a sustainable environment, and an efficient Energy Union.

The Prime Minister and his guest were unanimous about the importance of EU funding and its efficient and reasonable spending in order to achieve the best possible effect for the bloc's citizens. Borissov stressed that Bulgaria is implementing many projects of great public benefit thanks to European solidarity. He singled out the expansion of the underground railway in Sofia and other projects in the field of infrastructure and nature conservation.
