Sofia, February 2 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has proposed that each of the country's 28 regions should have a crisis centre for victims of domestic violence.

Deputy floor leader Dragomir Stoynev Friday said the proposed amendments to the Protection against Domestic Violence Act envisaged "real actions against domestic violence". The BSP wants the construction, maintenance and management of those centres to be funded from the public purse under the Social Assistance Act. Stoynev said the centres' maintenance would cost an estimated 2.5 million leva a year.

There are five such centres in Bulgaria now.

This is the latest of a series of legislative changes against domestic violence the BSP has promised to introduce, said Stoynev. He urged the ruling GERB Party to see that the proposed amendments are adopted as soon as possible.
