The production of electricity between January 1 and April 1, 2018, went down by 3.37 per cent from this time last year to reach 12,326,549 MWh, according to operational statistics of the Electricity System Operator. During the same time consumption declined by 4.89 percentage points to 11,258,246 MWh.

The export of electricity increased by 16.21 per cent from this time last year, to reach a total of 1,068,303 MWh.

Base load producers (Kozloduy N-plant, Maritsa-East 2, AES Gulubovo and Contour Global Maritsa East 3) generated 7.08 per cent less than this time last year, or a total of 10,361,220 MWh.

The share of RES generating facilities in the electricity output was 5.23 percentage points smaller than this time last year.

One figure that stands out is the 54.14 per cent increase of electricity generated by water power plants in the first three months of 2018 (1,284,823 MWh) compared to this time last year.

The average price on the Bulgarian Independent Energy Market (BIEM) in March 2018 was 53.84 leva/MWh, which is 25 per cent less than in February 2018. Statistics shows that this is part of a long-term downward trend observable since the start of the year.

The total turnover on the BIEM in March was 22,597,238.21 leva which was 23 per cent less than in February.

Electricity trades on BIEM in March totalled 386,901,80 MWh which was down by 1 percentage point from February. SN/LN/
