Sofia, April 23 (BTA) - The Vuzrazhdane [Revival] political party (not represented in Parliament) Monday starts a sign-in campaign for holding a national referendum against the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, party Chairman Kostadin Kostadinov told a BTA-hosted news conference.

The sign-in will be also accessible online so that expatriate Bulgarians can join it. The campaign will continue until July 23.

Kostadinov said that in Belgium the euro was introduced after a referendum while in Denmark it was rejected again with a referendum.

Kostandinov argued that giving up on the national currency is tantamount to giving up on the national sovereignty.

Secretary of the party's Sofia chapter Deyan Nikolov said that the possible introduction of the single European currency will inevitably cause shocks, changes and problems. In Nikolov's words, the business will round prices up while salaries will be calculated according to the official exchange rate, which will reduce them in real terms.

Nikolov said that the State's as a regulator should intervene to discharge its social functions and protect the pensioners and the socially disadvantaged and vulnerable people.

According to Vuzrazhdane, the incumbent government and the opposition are not in a position to fulfil such a function.
