Balkan Jazz Trumpets
at Romania Evening
under United in Art Project


Sofia, May 3 (BTA) - Balkan Jazz Trumpets will be the sound
supporting Romania's evening under the United in Art project
scheduled from 7:00 pm on May 5 at the City Mark Art Centre.
Admission is free, the organizers said.

Mihail Yossifov will present the Big Band of the National
Academy of Music and his guests - three young trumpet players
from Bulgaria and Romania. The programme mainly features pieces
by Bulgarian and Romanian composers.

United in Art is implemented with the financial support of the
Culture Programme for Bulgaria's Presidency of the EU Council.
The project, which is a synthesis of contemporary literature,
music and cinema, features prominent Bulgarian and foreign
representatives of the three arts.

Alek Popov will present Velina Minkova in the literary section
of the evening. Students of actor Ivaylo Hristov will read texts
by the two writers. Minkova, who is a UCLA graduate, lives in
Paris where she teaches English, translates fiction and is
currently working on a collection of short stories in Bulgarian.
A collection of her short stories in English, "Red Shorts", was
published in 2001, including "The Old Woman" which won the
Harry Kurnitz Award. Her first novel, "The Red and Blue Report
of the Green Ameba", was published in Bulgarian in 2015 and
presented at the European First Novel Festival in Budapest.

Hristo Simeonov's "The Son" received the Golden Rose Award and
the Cottbus Film Festival of Young East European Cinema for
short films.Romania will be present with two films - Konstantin
Popescu's "Ninel" and award-winning "Shadow of a Cloud" by Radu
Jude. The most successful Romanian short film of all time, "The
Tube with a Hat", is also his (2006)./PK/BR
