site.btaGender Gap in Pensions at Lv 121.57 in 2017

Sofia, June 19 (BTA) - An analysis by the National Social Security Institute finds significant gender-based differences concerning pensions, which were 121.57 lower for females than males in 2017, adding up to around 38 per cent.

The analysis covers 1,543,500 out of a total of 2,172,800 Bulgarian pensioners. It notes that the average contributory income in Bulgaria in 2017 was 821.51 leva, with 861.71 leva for men and 779 leva for women, with the difference being 10.6 per cent.
The average pension was 345.46 leva, with men getting an average of 410.58 leva and women getting an average of 298.48 leva. The differene in pensions between genders adds up to 112.11 leva in absolute terms or around 38 per cent in relative terms.

According to experts, this comes to suggest that there is an obvious gender-based pay gap, which is also confirmed by other data.
