The plan to assassinate the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) failed this time, the party's leader Korneliya Ninova said at the post-election party briefing here on Tuesday. All along it was suggested that the BSP was finished as a party, Ninova said, noting that the party has managed to roughly keep its previous election results amidst a very complicated situation.

She added that the 9% result does not satisfy BSP and the party will work to improve it. Ninova said that BSP will try a different approach in its analysis and consider the situation in every region.

Ninova expressed her scepticism that the question of changing party leadership will be discussed. She noted that it was not the first time a party double of the BSP was created in the last two years. In her words, this time this "mushroom double" was the coalition "The Left!". Ninova said that the campaign against the BSP was planned, organized and backed by a lot of finances, with the support of the caretaker cabinet, regional governors appointed by President Radev, and state officials. She said that despite those efforts, "The Left!" could not enter Parliament, unlike BSP.

Ninova summoned "The Left!" to return to the structures of BSP. She added that after the start of the parliament, the party will make an internal consultation on the behaviour of the parliamentary group, whether to enter the government or to support someone, whether to stand in opposition.

"With regard to the stalemate situation and the possibilities for forming a government, Ninova stressed that the floor should be given to the first. "When you are the winner, come out and offer a solution, instead of keeping quiet for three days and wonder what to do", the BSP leader said. She added that the caretaker cabinet could not ensure the secrecy of the vote and that it could not provide video surveillance to all polling stations.

The BSP leader thanked Bulgarian citizens for their support of the vote and the candidates and party structures for their work and efforts.
