Archaeological exhibition Silver Thrace in the Archaeological Museum in Skopje is the occasion for the first of a series of seminars of archaeologists from Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The exhibition presents over 1,700 exhibits from the time of the Thracian kings, stored in 18 Bulgarian museums.
It was opened in November 2023 and will be on until April 7.
The participants in the seminar, including 18 scientists from Sofia University and the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), began their meeting on Wednesday with a viewing of the exhibition in North Macedonia’s capital.
National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS Director Hristo Popov plans to hold such working meetings periodically with guest exchange in the future. The latest archaeological research and discoveries in recent years will be presented in the form of lectures.
The archeological seminar will feature Bulgarian lectures on the underwater archaeological sites in Bulgaria between 2015-2023, Greek practices in funerary architecture in Thrace, geophysical surveys of archaeological sites, current research on ancient mines for precious and non-ferrous metals, fashion in jewelry in Thrace in the 5th - 3rd centuries BC and the excavation of Heraclea Syntica.
In November 2023, Parliament Chairs of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, Rosen Zhelyazkov and Talat Xhaferi, opened the Silver Thrace exhibition at the Archaeological Museum in Skopje. This is the first Bulgarian archaeological exhibition in more than 30 years to be presented in the North Macedonia.
