Taraclia - the center of the Bulgarians in Moldova, celebrated 110 years since the birth and 20 years since the death of the chronicler, genealogist, local historian, ethnographer and honorary citizen of the city - Petr Kairyak. On this occasion, the House of Culture organized an information and documentary exhibition about his life and legacy. Kairyak was the initiator of the study of the genealogy of the local residents, the history of the region and its settlements. He is the author of articles and a book about the war hero of the national liberation movement of Bulgaria, native of Taraclia - Olimpiy Panov.
He lived 90 years and managed to do a lot for his native land, noted the participants in the commemorative event. They honoured the memory of their compatriot with a minute of silence.
"His research was valuable because it was based on the recollections of the descendants of people who were around 70-90 years old at the time, who in turn remembered stories passed down to them by their ancestors. This is the right type of history - history that was written from the point of view of the locals and not from the point of view of the great historians, whose motives are politically based. It is very good that his work, perhaps not so intensively, continues today," Sergei Filipov, deputy chairman of the Taraclia Region, said.
Prior to the opening of the exhibition, citizens, public figures and the granddaughter of Petr Kairyak laid flowers at his grave.
