Bulgarian nationals residing in Japan or planning a trip to the country should follow the instructions of the local authorities and regularly check the Japan Meteorological Agency website, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry’s Situation Centre said on its website after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Ishikawa Prefecture (Central Japan) on Monday.

A major tsunami warning has been issued for Ishikawa Prefecture. Tsunami warnings were also issued for Niigata, Toyama, Yamagata, Fukui and Hyogo, also along the Japan Sea Coast. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has urged people in these areas to immediately evacuate, Kyodo reported.

Bulgarian nationals in Japan can contact the Embassy of Bulgaria, located at Yoyogi 5-36-3, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 151-0053, by phone (+81 3 3465 1021; + 81 80 7966 5608) or by email (EMBASSY.TOKYO@MFA.BG).

Alert and requests for assistance in emergency situations are also received round the clock through the Situation Centre’s phone lines (+359 2 948 24 04; +359 2 971 38 56) and at CRISIS@MFA.BG.
