The seventh annual gathering of Bulgarians in Romania took place on Sunday in Bucharest to mark Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature and the Day of the Bulgarian Language. As is tradition, the event brought together Bulgarians from different parts of Romania, including representatives of both the historic Bulgarian minority and the newer Bulgarian community in the country. The gathering was organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria in Romania and the Union of Banat Bulgarians in Romania and was held at the Student Cultural House in the Romanian capital.
Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Romania, Radko Vlaykov, served as host of the initiative. Official guests included Georgi Nakov, who is also the representative of the Bulgarian minority in the Romanian Parliament and Bulgaria’s honorary consul in Timisoara; Deputy State Secretary for Ethnic Affairs and Interethnic Dialogue Geafer Dincer; Ruse Deputy Regional Governor Valeri Yordanov; and Ruse Deputy Mayor Zdravka Velikova.
The programme featured more than 30 performances by representatives of the Bulgarian community from across Romania. After several hours of songs, dances and poetry recitals, all participants received honorary certificates and gathered for a commemorative group photograph.
The national press club of Bulgarian News Agency in Bucharest was also awarded a certificate of recognition.
