Korea is moving towards carbon neutrality, driven by innovation, said the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria, Dong-bae Kim, during a Korea-Bulgaria Energy Forum in Sofia on Thursday. The event has been organized by the Korean Embassy and the Center for the Study of Democracy.
According to the ambassador, Bulgaria is navigating its energy transformation wisely. He noted that Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea share a common vision for achieving energy security while expanding their cooperation.
“Korean companies are ready to contribute to Bulgaria’s low-carbon transition with their innovative solutions,” emphasized Ambassador Kim, adding that Korean investors are already present in the Veliko Tarnovo region in solar energy production. Building on this collaboration, it should be expanded to other areas. “Together, we have the potential to develop mutually beneficial cooperation based on public-private partnerships,” he suggested.
Ruslan Stefanov, Program Director at the Center for the Study of Democracy, believes that in these particular geopolitical times, the Republic of Korea is a strong friend of Bulgaria. According to him, Bulgaria has prospects to diversify its energy mix and use artificial intelligence for this purpose. These opportunities are also linked to the use of rare earth minerals. “Korea is with us in this direction, and I hope that global tensions will ease so that we can take advantage of the situation,” he said.
He added that electricity generation from diverse sources requires investment for the future.
