Final data shows that foreign direct investment (FDI) in the non-financial sector exceeded EUR 32.7 billion at current prices by the end of 2023, reflecting an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said here on Friday.

In 2023, the industrial sector attracted the most foreign direct investment (FDI), reaching EUR 13.495 billion. The services sector, which includes trade, vehicle and motorcycle repair, transport, storage and postal services, hospitality, and catering, followed with investments totalling EUR 7.930 billion.

The Sofia region attracted the highest FDI, exceeding EUR 17.3 billion, whereas the Silistra region (Northeast Bulgaria, on the Danube), received the lowest, with just over EUR 38.8 million.
