The caretaker government will propose a state budget for 2023 at the end of its term in office, caretaker Minister of Labour and Social Policy Lazar Lazarov told Nova TV on Saturday. “Our main task is to organize fair and transparent elections,” he added. The budget to be proposed will reflect the policy observed by the caretaker cabinet thus far: there will be a significant increase in social expenditure, he specified.

He went on to list the positive changes made by the caretaker government in this field, such as the 20% increase of the minimum wage on an annual basis, the 22% raise of the poverty threshold, and the slowing down of the inflation rate, which dropped from 20% at the start of 2022 to 16.9% at the year’s end. Thanks to the change to the social support mechanism, an average of some 100,000 people will receive aid, compared to around 60,000 before, Lazarov said.
