Commenting on the Constitutional Court ruling that tasked the Central Election Commission with carrying out a nationwide recalculation of the results of the October 27, 2024 parliamentary elections, Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) Co-floor Leader and former justice minister Nadejda Iordanova said that the court’s decision is unclear, gives rise to more questions, and causes more issues rather than shedding light on how the Constitutional Court operates and what it adopts.

Iordanova reported that earlier in February, Democratic Bulgaria had written a letter to the Constitutional Court requesting all data on which the court based its findings, asking for the expert reports to be made publicly available, and also that the Constitutional Court hold a public hearing with the participation of the parties involved to clarify the issues. Iordanova said she saw the results of the recount in bulk form, without a signed expert report being presented. "The violations were in bulk, and it was unclear which ones the Constitutional Court would take into account," she explained.

Iordanova further noted that there are voting sections with discrepancies in the individual recount, ranging from 1 to 10 votes. "These summarized percentages do not indicate whether it is a significant violation, or whether it affects the results. Also, it is unclear what exact data the Central Election Commission will recalculate," she emphasized.

"Our criticism of the Constitutional Court is that its work so far is opaque, raises more questions, and does not present its findings in a convincing way to the public," she stressed.

Asked whether a question about whether Democratic Bulgaria is ready to negotiate with GERB-UDF if, after the recount, it turns out that there is no majority for a government, Iordanova said he would rather not comment on conjectures.
