Three transplants were performed overnight following an organ donation at the Prof. Dr. Stoyan Kirkovich Hospital in Stara Zagora, Southeastern Bulgaria, the Medical Supervision Executive Agency said here on Thursday.

The family of a 43-year-old man, who was declared brain dead following a traumatic brain injury sustained in a domestic accident, made the decision to donate his organs, the Agency reported.

A liver transplant was successfully performed at the Military Hospital, with a 40-year-old woman as the recipient. Additionally, two kidney transplants were conducted at Alexandrovska Hospital, with the recipients being two men aged 35 and 39. Due to medical considerations, other organs were deemed unsuitable for transplantation.

The liver transplant recipient is in good condition, alert, and responsive, the Military Hospital said.

Both kidney recipients are reported to be stable, with normal vital signs and satisfactory urine output, as confirmed by Alexandrovska Hospital.

The Medical Supervision Executive Agency, along with the medical institutions involved, expressed their deep gratitude to the donor's family and the medical teams for their contributions.

Earlier this month, in memory of organ donors and in recognition of their families, transplant recipients and donors' relatives planted 16 roses behind the National Palace of Culture. This initiative was part of the national campaign "Yes! For Life!" organized by the Medical Supervision Executive Agency, which aims to raise awareness and support for organ donation.
