The Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) announced here on Monday that it has launched a fundraising campaign to support the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina affected by the floods.

Sudden floods hit five municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Jablanica, Konjic, Kreševo, Fojnica, and Kiseljak. Jablanica also experienced an earthquake, BRC said.

The situation is extremely dire, with at least 18 people having lost their lives, 12 missing, 50 displaced, and the total number of affected people exceeding 5,000. These figures are not final, as several municipalities remain isolated and cut off from rescue efforts and communication due to destroyed infrastructure. The lack of telephone and internet connections further complicates coordination and rescue efforts, BRC noted.

The Red Cross expressed its support for the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina and called for assistance through a designated bank account for contributions.

BRC and The Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina are part of the sub-regional mutual aid network, Neighbours Help First. Bulgarian BRC teams are prepared to assist, if needed.
