Parliament passed unanimously, by 116 votes, on first reading the Accessibility Requirements for Products and Services Bill here on Wednesday. The bill aims to promote the full and equal participation of people with disabilities in public life.

The new law introduces a new, fully harmonized regulatory framework with European legislation, setting accessibility requirements for various products. These include consumer computer hardware systems for general use, corresponding computer operating systems, e-readers, self-service terminals primarily used for providing transport and banking services such as payment terminals, ATM devices, ticket vending machines, passenger registration machines, and interactive self-service terminals.

Accessibility requirements will apply to products launched after June 28, 2025. Transitional provisions are included for services to ensure a smooth transition to the application of the accessibility requirements.
