The National Museum of History (NMH) marks the 130th anniversary of Tsar Boris III's birth with an exhibition, titled Tsar Boris III: the Man and the Statesman, which will open on October 3, 2024, in the museum's central lobby, the organisers said here on Wednesday.

"Without politicising history, the temporary exhibition showcases important original documents and unique items like jewellery, awards, and uniforms in chronological order. These items illustrate Tsar Boris's life journey, through birth, baptism, coming of age, ascension to the throne, marriage, and rule. The photographs, as objective witnesses of the time, reflect the monarch's private life and state activities, his love for nature, science, and technology, and his popularity among the people", the organisers said.

Tsar Boris III ruled during a time of intense political and social conflict, following two national catastrophes, lost national ideals, and a global economic crisis. He managed to stabilize the country, implemented a careful foreign policy, and was crucial in the return of Southern Dobrudzha to Bulgaria in the autumn of 1940.

The organisers explained that the exhibition is being held in collaboration with the Archives State Agency and the National Polytechnic Museum.
